About the smallcase

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was founded as a steel trading company in 1945. It subsequently forayed into the automotive industry by acquiring a license to assemble the iconic Willys Jeep. 


  • By the 1960s, the company had diversified into farm mechanisation and started manufacturing tractors. Currently, it is the largest tractor company in the world by volume and sells in over 50 countries.  M&M consolidated its hold on the Indian tractor market after acquiring Punjab Tractors (now Swaraj) in 2007.  


  • The company took the SUV market by storm by launching the iconic Mahindra Bolero in 2000, which was the highest-selling SUV for 10 years in a row. 


  • Today, the group operates across 22 different industries like automotive, farm equipment, logistics, financial services, defence manufacturing, etc. with a presence in 100+ countries, and 250,000+ employees and derives half of its revenues from abroad. 


  • The group’s listed companies have a combined market cap of more than Rs. 3 lakh Crore as of January 2023, and 2 of them are part of the Nifty 50 index.
