- Allocation towards Smart Cities Mission (in conjunction with AMRUT, another urban development scheme) was increased by 3% to ₹14,100 in Budget 2022-2023
- India requires smart cities because of rapid urbanisation, which exerts immense pressure on urban infrastructure and quality of life in cities.
- Smart cities will be developed to improve the standard of living through excellent public transportation, efficient energy and water supply, modern sanitation facilities, core infrastructure and a safe, secure & stable environment
