The universe is India's lending and financial-services sector: private and public banks, non-banking finance companies, housing finance, insurance and diversified financial services. These are balance-sheet businesses that earn from credit growth and the spread between what they pay for funds and what they earn on them. A limited allocation to capital-market businesses is permitted where it strengthens the theme, but the portfolio is led by lenders.

Selection follows the quality of the lending franchise rather than a price factor. The measures are loan-book growth, net interest margin, asset quality through gross and net non-performing assets, provision coverage and return on assets. Balance-sheet strength is weighted heavily: in lending, growth bought at the cost of asset quality reverses, and the cycle exposes it.

The portfolio holds 15 companies across banks, NBFCs and financial services, deliberately more diversified than the capital-markets theme because lending carries idiosyncratic credit risk that concentration would magnify. Companies must clear asset-quality thresholds, a minimum traded-value floor, and carry no exchange surveillance flag.

Factor-weighted, so the strongest scores carry the largest positions, with a 20% cap per stock. The cap is set against the holding count: in a 15-stock book a larger position would be single-name risk rather than a conviction expression. Reviewed quarterly, and rebalanced only when the portfolio has drifted materially from its target — currently when more than 20% of the target holdings differ from those held. The underlying measures move with reported financials, so a quarterly review matches the pace at which the data changes. Trading only on drift avoids churning a portfolio that has not meaningfully changed, since every trade carries a cost the investor bears.
